Following on from the Gold theme in the last post here’s a couple of dream jars that are plonked here and there around the capital and worth looking out for on that lunchtime stroll. It’s all to do with The BFG film and for more on these oversized jam jars, have a butchers here. P

Golden years, gold

Yesterday lunchtime while popping to Fleet Street for some “Friday bits” I passed by the Law Society of England and Wales’ Chancery Lane headquarters and noticed some brand new looking shiny lions on top of the black railings there.

Thinking they’d just been painted, I went over to tell the painters how good a job they done (and get some tips!) instead, discovered  a couple of friendly “gilders” in the process of covering the lions with gold leaf. They were only too glad to talk about it and gave us a quick rundown of the gilding process (good blokes!) The work looks a bit painstaking and takes a bit of time but boy, those lions look good! P

Attack of the oversized director’s chair

Seen walking over Waterloo Bridge this morning, an oversized chair outside Somerset House looking onto the river. I take it it’s something to do with Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick – An exhibition of art inspired by the film maker at Somerset House, rather than a fishing chair for an angling giant. More on the exhibition here. P
